Peer Observation
Peer observation provides educators with opportunities to learn from one another, reflect on practice, and strengthen instruction through focused observation and meaningful feedback.
FEW for School Improvement uses the Peer Observation Tools to guide peer observations, helping educators identify specific teaching practices to look for.
There is no single right way to set up peer observations. The goals and context of your school should shape the way that peer observations are structured to create meaningful opportunities to observe practice and learn with colleagues. This work can begin with partners, teams, or your entire campus.
Before observing, educators choose a focus for the observation to clarify what they hope to learn. This keeps the observation is purposeful and supports meaningful reflection afterward.
- TAGS Feedback can guide your observation and reflection by encouraging educators to:
- Tell something you appreciated
- Ask a question to learn more
- Give a growth-oriented suggestion
- Steal an idea
After the observation, the observer shares the TAGS Feedback, and both educators reflect together, ask questions, and identify next steps. The observer and the educator both learn and grow from the conversation.
